The DESY spin-off suna precision GmbH was founded by five employees working on the PETRA III beamline P11 in July 2014. The CEOs of the company, Nicolas Stübe and Alke Meents, aim at entering the scientific market with innovative measurement devices based on novel nanopositioning systems, in particular for synchrotron radiation sources worldwide.

The products of suna-precision GmbH are various different high-precision technologies that allow measurements to be made efficiently and with the precision in the nanometer range. In comparison to other products which are already available, these nanopositioning systems allow repeat accuracy on the nanometer scale in all three dimensions. Additionally, they distinguish themselves through a simple control system, which is based on specially developed software, and the use of nanopositioning in a vacuum.

The start-up company has been granted almost 100 000 EUR by the Helmholtz Association “Helmholtz Enterprise” program for the period of one year, starting in August 2015. DESY provides the same sum of money for this project. The Helmholtz Enterprise project “Synchrotron-Nanopositionierung” aims at supporting the build-up of the company. The funding includes staff and material costs as well as management support for consultancy.

The Helmholtz Enterprise program combined with the assistance and support of the DESY Start-up Office under the leadership of the DESY Technology Transfer Office offers very good conditions for the incubation of a commercial enterprise during the whole start-up phase.
